The 34th annual Texas Biggie race was held on Memorial Day weekend, May 27-29, 2011, in Rendon, Texas, just south of the Dallas/ Fort Worth Metroplex.
This race has a long history of being the âśrace to attendâť and draws drivers from all over the United States. Over the years, this race has been won by some of the worldâ™s best, which includes the current IFMAR world champion, Team XRAY driver, Ralph Burch. |

Team RC America/XRAY was in full force and ready to represent during this 3-day event of six qualifiers and mains.
In 1/10 Touring Sedan, it was an all XRAY main! There were 12 cars in total, with 10 qualifying directly into the main and 2 bump-ups from the "B".
The 2010 Texas Biggie champion, Team RC America/XRAY driver Tommy Porfirio, was the early pace setter and on the pole after qualifying. Tommy was closely followed by Alex Cruz and Brad Toffelmire. As the 45min A-main started, Tommy was off to an early lead with Alex close behind in 2nd. Brad, having had a troubled lap, was knocked down to 8th. |

As the race went on, Team RC America/XRAY driver Nick Lefebvre, who struggled in qualifying and bumped up from the âśBâť main, was moving through the field quickly. By lap 32, he had moved into 2nd place behind Tommy. The race continued with Tommy leading, Nick in 2nd, and Brad making his way back up to 3rd. At lap 97, Tommy ran into problems getting through traffic and was forced to retire, giving the lead to Nick. This also allowed Brad to move into 2nd and Chris Metheny into 3rd. The race ended in this order, with Nick taking the win by 2 laps, with Brad and Chris finishing on the same lap only 0.325sec apart!
It was an exciting race and a great showing for XRAY and the NT1. |
